Wai
A downloadable game for Windows
Wai is a narrative adventure game with light survival elements such as hunger and thirst, which affect the character's perception system — the core mechanic of the game.
The story follows a character who wakes up in a forest clearing with no memory of their identity or how they got there. Alone and disoriented, the character must explore the surroundings to uncover clues about the place, their past, and the reason for being there.
Through interaction with objects in the environment, fragments of the story gradually emerge — revealing answers while also unlocking new questions. These discoveries drive the character’s progression and slowly unveil the lore.
How to play Wai
Pay close attention to your surroundings: exploration is key. Whenever an object of interest is nearby, a subtle notification will appear in the upper corner of the screen. This means there’s something important to the story close to you.
To recognize these objects, your character relies on Perception, which is directly influenced by hunger and thirst. That means you'll need to occasionally eat and drink to stay sharp.
There’s no map in Wai. You’ll need to mentally map out locations and resources as you go.
When you discover something meaningful about your past, your character will unlock an Insight. These insights reveal who you are—and why you’re there. You can review your insight progression by pausing the game and clicking the Progression button.
